Unique and John

A piece on transgender inmates and their in-prison relationships just went up this weekend on KTVU.com. While we met other transgender inmates and couples, the main characters in the piece are Unique and John, pictured above. We were shooting on a sunny Friday in San Quentin’s prison yard, and even though someone had been stabbed just before we got there, people seemed to be relaxed and pretty chill, for what it was.

I took the photos for the piece, Jude Joffe-Block did the video, and Isabella Cota-Schwartz did the audio and production.
